Rapunzel held up her wrist, showing of a dangling charm bracelet. “Susan got me this!” she exclaimed. “I’m supposed to get a charm everywhere I travel! It’s like a travel journal! So I need to get something to represent Montressor for sure!” She grinned brightly. “And Snow made me a lovely cake! But I’m pretty sure that’s already gone,” she added with a giggle. “It was delicious, though!”

“Cool, once all this whole wedding thing is over, you and Eugene can come with us again. We’ll find you one.” He agreed with a smile. “Sounds like you’re having a good day.” He mused.

“I am!” she grinned. “I still need to paint the Benbow! Does your mom still want me to?” she wondered, fidgeting. She felt guilty for having waited so long to get back to Sarah about that. She hadn’t always been this busy, had she? “I finished my book!”

“Your book? What book?” Jim asked curiously, wondering if he’d forgotten something again. He grinned realizing he’d skipped her first question. “I’m sure she does, she understands your busy though.”

“Didn’t I tell you?” she wondered. “I wrote a book about what to do if you’re ever possessed by the Sun and Moon gods in Corona! So that if anyone else ever goes through what Eugene and I went through, they know what to do!”

Jim shook his head. “No you didn’t, but that’s probably a good book to have.” He agreed, “I wonder if that happens a lot?” he wondered and then continued. “And what about going to see the Sun? What if someone with a ship isn’t around?”

He smiled against her kiss, sitting up enough to hold her weight. He could tell she was still weak. Jim rested his forehead against hers. “Did you just say I was right? I think we need to let a newspaper know.” He teased.

“Oh, stop it,” she chided, but the tone of her voice was ruined by the smile on her face. “There have been many occasions where I thought you were right, and you know that.”

Jim grinned, pressing his lips against hers in response. Relief was making him slightly giddy, but he knew she probably needed to rest some too. He leaned back after a moment, blue eyes soft. “You’re cute when you sleep.” He informed her, cheeks slightly red.

She smiled and looked down at her lap, blushing as she did so. “Thank you,” she said quietly, her fingers playing with the edge of his sleeve. They fell into a silence for a while and she thought she might be on the verge of falling asleep again when her stomach growled loudly.

He smiled at her gentle touches. Jim closed his eyes and had started dozing until he heard Jane’s stomach. He smirked, opening blue eyes. “I’ll go get you something.” He swung his legs over the side of the bed, stretching as he stood. “Any requests?” he asked.

Rapunzel cringed a little at the memory of his righteous and well-deserved anger. “But I’d actually done something wrong,” she said softly. She shook her head and pulled away. “Enough sadness. It’s my birthday!”

Jim felt bad for bringing it up. He grabbed her arm as she pulled away. “You didn’t deserve to be yelled at like that, both times. I’m sorry.” He said. Well better late than never. He gave her a half grin. “But yes, happy birthday! What else have you gotten?” He asked.

“How was I supposed to leave?” He asked, breathing in her scent. Jim was finally feeling his muscles relax having her so close. “What if you had woke up feeling all weak and I’d been down stairs?”

Well, he did have a point. Jane just wasn’t used to being this useless that his logic hadn’t crossed her mind. With a bit of effort, she sat up slightly, her limbs feeling like lead. She leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. “I suppose you’re right…” she finally agreed.

Jim smiled softly at her, feeling comfortable once more with her in his arms. He hadn’t slept very sound beside her. He didn’t dream often, but these had been plagued with seeing her collapse. He didn’t move from his spot, his face in her neck. “She seems fine, but I haven’t talked to her much besides when she brought food up.”

“You didn’t have to stay up here with me the whole time,” she said, rubbing her thumb gently around the back of his hand. She was touched that he had, but was afraid sitting there for so long would have gotten uncomfortable.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him more fully, her face against his shoulder. “I can take it, Jim, most of the time. But not all of the time and I sometimes have a hard time telling when you’re teasing and when…” She gave him an extra squeeze, not wanting to finish the thought. When you’re actually mad at me, since I’ve screwed up so much.

“Well just go ahead and assume I’m not actually mad at you.” He countered softly. Jim smirked. “I think you know that when I’m really mad I end up yelling like a dumbass kid.” He pointed out, wincing at the many times he’d managed to make an ass of himself on Earth when he was angry.

How did she know how to distract him and make him feel better? Better yet, wanted. He had never felt like this, the first choice. It took everything he had not to fall into the bed beside her.  He grinned, rubbing the back of his neck. “Oh really, Miss Porter? Plenty of room?” He teased before leaning down and pulling off his boots.

He stood up, walking to the other side to get into bed with her. It was a wide bed, with room enough for more than two, but he didn’t want to crowd her on her side already. Jim took off his jacket as well, hanging it on a bedpost, then slipped under the covers. He moved to her, pulling her gently to him like he had the night before in the ship. He buried his face in the back of her neck, inhaling her scent. “I’m so glad you’re okay.” He murmured against her ear.

Jane smiled as he climbed in next to her. It was comforting to have him so close. She nuzzled gently against him, smiling softly. “Me too,” she whispered, just glad he didn’t have to worry anymore.

She felt a tad bit drowsy, but didn’t want to sleep again just yet. So she decided to talk to distract herself from how tired she was. “How is your mother?” she asked.

Jim smiled softly at her, feeling comfortable once more with her in his arms. He hadn’t slept very sound beside her. He didn’t dream often, but these had been plagued with seeing her collapse.
